Knowing how to write:

Learning how to write is a lifelong process. One needs to be exposed to writing from a very young age. While you don’t write a lot in the beginning, you grow to love the process of writing when you’re little.

  • You don’t write pieces all the time, but when you do, you’re usually extremely satisfied. A natural curiosity takes over, and you can’t wait to write more. When I first learned to write in my toddler years, I drew a notebook, and put down my ideas in great detail. It led me to becoming inspired to become a writer.

  • It didn’t take long for me to put down my first article. I needed proofreading, but the start was an awesome experience for me. From here, I went back to my old writing habits and began writing more.

  • You don’t necessarily have to start writing from the very beginning, but you always get better at it as you gain more experience. The thing is, when you begin to write well, you write with less pressure. It’s a breeze.

  • As you learn more about writing, you often forget how to think out of the box. I had to learn that the older I got, the more I began to use archaic forms of writing. I went away from unique and interesting sentences, and I deviated from my initial script.

  • Eventually, I started to get better at writing—by necessity, not choice. Writing to put forth a voice and to express yourself took over. As I was writing more frequently, I forgot that I needed to find a way to ensure that I included more detail. I would write long, one-sentence drafts, but never invested any time into making them fuller. I gave them up along the way as I became more comfortable with writing with a strategy.

  • At a certain point, I couldn’t write as well as I wanted. Despite wanting to write stories that appealed to my interests, I had lost sight of the important skills I needed to write stories that included more description.
